Art and Engineering

I know this is a BMW ad, but I've been thinking about the parallels between the two lately. Especially since the arts vs science in Malaysian schools debate has reared its ugly head in my mind once again. I love arts - I write and I read and who says music and wine and food isn't enjoyable? But I'm stuck in science, because it's the proper thing to do.

Then I watched this video, and my breath is knocked out of me. Here is good science, compressed and tested and made beautiful. The wind, given form and tangible movement. Theo Jansen is a genius.

*PS: That machine there is called a strandbeest. A contraption that runs on wind. Wonderful.

The Silver Lining: Why Life Is Worth Living

Because at times when you really would rather do what’s on the left than the right.

Brock's Microbiology and Sherwood's Human Physiology look nice on my table.

Because when you get frustrated at how things end up.

Laundry isn't meant to be dried like this in a normal world. Then again, I'm grateful I even have clothes to wear.

Got so fed up with cafeteria food some people and I made this with minimal ingredients. Marginally better than normal fare these days.

There’s still always The Silver Lining.

Just an hour or so away after a looong, tiring journey lies CIVILISATION!! This is how I regain my sanity.

Destressing in under 5 minutes

Do you believe in fairy tales?

And what do girls really do behind closed doors?

Gotta love those dummies.

Sweet sweet apple...

Can you

believe it!?

The MbP is super fine and it's really fun. User friendly and obviously a beauty if i can say so myself. The keypad layout is simple and yet sophisticated. It even lights up under low light conditions! The colour is plain but still attractive, pulling glances from anyone who's caught a glimpse of it. The hardware and software installed on this baby are awesome and the specs, just nice. That's the general idea of the MbP and oh my gawd am i enjoying it. Who wouldn't! At least now with this I can post more often. No more waiting for my turn at the library! Yipee! Lalalala...=)

The Undergroundsquare blog never looked so good.(took the pic from my frinds hp cam)

Perfect.

I am gonna marry nothing but a blond

I personally believe that U.S Americans are unable to do so because, some people out there in our nation, don't have maps. And I believe that our education such as South Africa and uh, the Iraq and everywhere like such as, I believe that they should our education over here! And the US. Should help the US, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian Countires so we will be able to build up our future for our children.

This is what I think she was thinking, wait.......... let me put it this way

I personally believe that the U.S Teen Pageant were unable to answer the question properly because some people out there in the nation don't have brains. And I believe she is one of them.

Hahahhahahahaha, okay, okay, don't be all defensive and all that, I know she was nervous and it was a blooper, I am just kidding, I am not a pig. Don't BBQ me.

Seriously, I think what was on her mind was:

I personally believe that U.S Americans are unable to do so because, some people out there in our nation, don't have maps. And I believe countries such as South Africa and the Iraq and everywhere like such as, should follow our education over here! And the US. should help South Africa, the Iraq and the Asian Countires. So we will be able to build up our future for our children.

But I still don't have any idea why she said that.

While Interview in BBC The Today Show, she mentioned that she did not listened to the question properly. Perhaps she thought the question was "According to the poll, why 1/5 of the world population do not know where the US is on the map"

Anyway it is still very funny. I love blonds so much..

The Relationship Program

I got this from a forwarded email. One of the few I actually bother opening. Hilarious. It's a problem with a program that maybe we should all learn from when we get the program/entertainment system =)

Celebrating 40 Years of Engineering Excellence

UPGRADE FROM BOYFRIEND TO HUSBAND

Dear IT Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a slow down in the overall performance, particularly in the flower, gifts and jewellery applications that had operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

Romance 9.5

In addition, Husband 1.0 un-installed many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, but installed undesirable programs such as Formula One 5.0, NBA 3.0 and World Cup 2.0.

And now Conversation 8.0 no longer runs and House Cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate Housewife

Reply:

Dear Desperate Housewife,

First keep in mind:
Boyfriend 5.0 is an entertainment package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Try entering the command C:\ I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME and download
Tears 6.2 to install Guilt 3.0.

If all works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, overuse can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Late Night Teh Tarik 6.1.

Late Night 6.1 is a very bad program that will create SnoringLoudly.wav files.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-Law 1.0 or reinstall another
Boyfriend program. These are not supported applications and will crash
Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have a limited
memory and cannot learn new applications quickly.

You might consider additional software to improve memory and performance. I personally recommend Hot Tasty Food 3.0 and Tongkat Ali 6.9.

Good Luck,
IT Support

Cakes cakes cakes

I realised it's been ages since I've posted a Makan post here in BUGS. Last time I used to have more of a predisposition towards savoury food, now I've developed quite a sweet tooth. Oh Mark & Spencers biscuits, why are you oh so tempting, milk chocolate digestives, jaffa cookies... Thank goodness they are only available at Suria KLCC and One Utama at KL.

Anyway, why is it I wonder, that the Secret Recipe in Kuching just isn't the same as the one at KL. I would have thought franchises have standards. Going to Secret Recipe at KL last week was a pleasant surprise, first the prices are lower than at Kuching. Secondly, they definitely have more variety. I tried this Raspberry Cheese Cake, it's the one on the right in the photo.

This variant we definitely do not find in Kuching. This was unexpectedly good, cheesy, raspberry goodness with a chocolatey base. On the left in the photo is Chocolate Indulgence that my brother insisted on ordering. Good also, but not my favourite. What I ordered was one of the "health cakes". I know I know.. you're thinking how can I go to Secret Recipe and order something like that? But it's seriously great, the low sugar Peach Cream Cake I ordered. There were pieces of "sweet but not too sweet" peaches in fluffy, light sponge cake and covered in a subtly sweet light meringue.

Then just on Friday, somehow ended up at Secret Recipe again, this time at Kuching. Somehow pales in comparison, or perhaps we chose the wrong type of cake. Had Marble Cheese and Carrot Cheese cake. My brother doesn't look like he's liking the cake that much in this photo, but that's just my offhand timing at taking this photo. He actually gobbled it up. Guys...

But after all that, I'd have to say this home-made cheese cake my friend made for another friend's birthday yesterday could give Secret Recipe a run for their money. Looks so good, you wouldn't have known it's home-made. I helped to cut it nicely... Unofficial cake cutter at birthdays. Haha. Training for future dissections?

Anyway, this cake also tasted as good as it looks. Chocolatey, peanut-buttery, cheesy sweetness. The birthday girl liked it so much she brought home the remainder not eaten. I guess she was also touched by the effort put into making the cake. See... it doesn't take that much money to touch a girl's heart, it takes effort. Haha.

The last two photos in this post were taken by my new SE W610i. It should do for now, before my camera comes back from the hospital.

Top Ten Signs you are Middle-Class

10. Your motto is reduce, reuse and recycle

9. You don't like to spend money for whatever reasons

8. You don't like donating to charity because you think you are the person that really needs it

7. You hate Bill Gates and you don't know why

6. You buy Borneo Post instead of New Strait Times

5. You haven been flying MAS since Air Asia was founded

4. You only shop during 'MALAYSIA'S MEGA SALE IS BACK!'

3. You go to form 6

2. When it comes to buying a new car, the only brands you can think of is 'Proton and 'Perodua'.

1. You are actually checking yourself with those signs listed here!

Money is a very important issue for almost everyone, how much you have sometimes determine how people see you. Although it is not fair in every way, people learn to accept it. However I would like to think that just because you are born into a poor orphanage doesn't mean you cannot be one day successful. And even if you don't have a good education, it doesn't mean that you have to collect garbage and eat them until the day you die.

Obviously Bush don't care

Bush memory fails him, he forgets PM has remarried

WASHINGTON: US President George W. Bush was delighted to learn that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has remarried.

In an interview with journalists from the Asia Pacific, including Bernama, on Thursday, Bush said:

“When his wife (the late Datin Seri Endon Mahmood) died, I tried to call him early just to let him know I cared about him.”

When told that Abdullah had remarried, Bush appeared surprised and said: “Has he? Good. I’ll congratulate him. Thanks for giving me that heads-up. I’m going to congratulate him. That’s neat.”

When told by his aide that he did congratulate the prime minister, Bush laughed at his memory lapse and said: “Exactly. I’m going to congratulate him again. I’ll double the congratulations.”

He later admitted that he had forgotten and asked his aide whether he had called or written a note to Abdullah. He was told that he had written a note.

“That’s right, yes. (I also) sent him a couple of flowers,” Bush said.
