I'm sure most of the UGS bloggers and members above the age of 17 have taken or are going to take driving lessons and by lessons I mean theory and practical lessons. Well, for those of you who have already gone for lessons, have you ever wondered why we take theoretical lessons? Practical lessons are obviously a must but gluing your butt to a plastic chair for 6 hours++ to listen to a guy babbling about something we have already observed for the last 17 years is just plain silly. And after that, you would be required to go for a theory test and sit for another 3 more hours of talk on stuff which you might only use once in a few years. Then, there's the 3 hour practical drive, the jalan A,B and C drive, and the final driving test on a set course which would determine your 'P' license. Then another 2 year wait before actually getting your hands on the real thing.
You'd think that with all the long hours put into the lessons before one gets his/her driving license, the traffic police would have an easier life and the hospital might not need have as many coroners. Well, you're wrong. Car accidents and death tolls are on the rise especially during the festive seasons. It's crazy that with all that time invested into the lessons, accidents are happening more frequently. Three cheers for JPJ!! Something is seriously flawed in the system that has to be corrected. It's pathetic how the radio stations and the media have to constantly remind us to drive carefully, put on your helmets and other stuff. It's as if we don't even care about our life and the lives of other people around us. In the UK, I have not seen or heard people on the tele and radio asking the citizens to drive safe considering the fact that in the UK you have 5 lane motorways which have high or no speed limits.
Personally, I think that all driving lessons should be practical and less theoretical. Practice makes perfect ma. Besides, I like freaking out my instructor.

I wonder if I should mention that here in Western Australia we just grab a driving "textbook" and study by ourselves at home before sitting for the theory test...? *innocent face*
